At Woodmans Hill Secondary College, the Junior School includes years 7, 8 and 9

Junior School Program

The Junior school program is designed to facilitate; a safe and supported transition from primary school to secondary school, the development of independent and engaged learners, empowering students in their learning to develop school connectedness and pride.

The junior school focuses on:

  • A supported transition from a primary school setting into the secondary context

  • Developing positive relationships with peers, staff, families and the wider community

  • Experiences in a range of new and diverse curriculum areas

  • Further development of foundational skills and knowledge in literacy and numeracy that can be applied across the junior curriculum and in the later years of secondary schooling

  • Establishing high expectations around learning, focusing on the teaching of School Wide Positive Behaviours (SWPB)

  • Student agency in their learning

  • Fostering social & emotional wellbeing through supporting students’ social and interpersonal skills, enhancing skills in teamwork, making and maintaining positive peer relationships, effective communication and resilience

  • Preparing students for transition in the senior secondary education through development of essential study skills and a supported transition into the senior school
