Student Careers and Pathways is managed by Carolyn Gregg. Students who require support or advice can arrange an appointment to see Carolyn.
Careers at Woodmans Hill offers individual advice, assistance and counselling to all students on pathway options, subject selections, course and careers advice, resume and job applications (including assistance with Tax File Numbers), interview techniques, job search and work experience. VET (Vocational Education and Training) advice and investigation is also offered.
Year twelve students are counselled individually on their options and pathways into Universities, Tafes and into the world of work. They also assist with University and Tafe applications.
The careers team provide realistic, up to date advice and will always try to assist with the best possible outcome for each student.
In the careers area a wide range of current information and material is available for students to access. This includes both tertiary education (Australia wide), training and employment.
VCAL – Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning
The VCAL aims to provide knowledge, skills and attributes to enable students to make informed choices regarding pathways to work and further education.
Personal development and the utilisation of a student’s particular interests and pathways, in the context of applied learning, are underpinning principles of the VCAL. The VCAL acknowledges this within the development of knowledge and employability skills that help prepare the individual for employment and for participation in the broader context of family, community and lifelong learning; and skills that assist the individual to make informed vocational choices within specific industry sectors and/or to facilitate pathways to further learning.
VCAL also allows students to gain practical work-related experience to count as credit to their overall certification. Like the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCAL is a recognised senior secondary qualification. Students who do VCAL are likely to be interested in going on to training at a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institute, starting an apprenticeship, or getting a job after completing school.
The aim of the Woodmans Hills Careers Portal is to provide students with all the latest information that will help them make decisions about their future career and their life beyond school.
You can use the Careers Portal site to locate University, TAFE and any other type of course across Australia, get information about the VCE, search for job vacancies and much more.
