Careers & Pathways Advice & Support

Careers at Woodmans Hill provides information and advice for students and their parents in relation to career development.

Today, career incorporates everything we do in life – what we learn through participation in cultural activities, work experience, education, parenting, sports, hobbies, voluntary work and paid work – all these roles and activities of life and work add to a persons’ career development.

Woodmans Hill Secondary College is committed to ongoing Good Careers Practice, and involves students at all year levels in career exploration, be it one to one career counselling, career education, job placement, career coaching, training, mentoring, coordinating work experience programs, VET program coordination, industry immersion, guest speakers and development of career action plans.

Woodmans Hill Student Careers and Pathways is managed by our professional career development practitioner, Carolyn Gregg.

VCAL – Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning

The VCAL aims to provide knowledge, skills and attributes to enable students to make informed choices regarding pathways to work and further education.

Personal development and the utilisation of a student’s particular interests and pathways, in the context of applied learning, are underpinning principles of the VCAL. The VCAL acknowledges this within the development of knowledge and employability skills that help prepare the individual for employment and for participation in the broader context of family, community and lifelong learning; and skills that assist the individual to make informed vocational choices within specific industry sectors and/or to facilitate pathways to further learning.

VCAL also allows students to gain  practical work-related experience to count as credit to their overall certification. Like the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCAL is a recognised senior secondary qualification. Students who do VCAL are likely to be interested in going on to training at a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institute, starting an apprenticeship, or getting a job after completing school.
